What Can School Councils Do?
Involve community members
and parents in decision making about curriculum in science and mathematics.
- Find out whether the national recommendations for teaching
science and mathematics are being followed.
- Make sure that all students and teachers have regular access
to computers and other technology.
- Ask students and teachers to demonstrate to Council members
and parents how computers help students learn more effectively.
- Make sure that the faculty as a whole collaborate about how
and when different subjects and concepts are taught.
- Ask for research and evaluation data that support the
curriculum and instructional decisions made at the school.
- Encourage Council members, parents and teachers to visit other
schools where students perform well in science or mathematics to explore good ideas that
have worked well elsewhere.
